Example 1 – VAT (General Taxpayer)
A trading WFOE sells goods for RMB 1,130,000 (tax-inclusive) and purchases goods for RMB 678,000 (tax-inclusive). The VAT rate is 13%.
• Output VAT = RMB 1,130,000 ÷ 1.13 × 13% ≈ RMB 130,000
• Input VAT = RMB 678,000 ÷ 1.13 × 13% ≈ RMB 78,000
• VAT payable = RMB 130,000 – RMB 78,000 = RMB 52,000
Example 2 – Corporate Income Tax (Small Low-Profit Enterprise)
A consulting WFOE has annual taxable income of RMB 2,000,000. It qualifies as a small low-profit enterprise.
• Taxable income = RMB 2,000,000
• Tax base = RMB 2,000,000 × 25% = RMB 500,000
• CIT rate = 20%
• CIT payable = RMB 500,000 × 20% = RMB 100,000
Effective tax rate ≈ 5%.
For high-tech enterprises, a reduced 15% rate applies directly on the total taxable income.
Small-scale taxpayers (annual VAT taxable sales ≤ RMB 5 million) enjoy significant relief:
These benefits can dramatically lower the tax burden for early‑stage WFOEs and SMEs.
Exporters can reclaim the input VAT paid on raw materials, components, and goods destined for export. The process involves:
The refund rate depends on the HS code of the exported product. Some items enjoy full 13% refund, while others have reduced rates. For more details, visit our VAT Export Tax Refund Service page.
Bookkeeping and tax filing are collaborative. Your cooperation directly affects efficiency and data accuracy:
We provide dedicated WeChat Work / group chat channels for quick responses to daily questions. For long-term clients, we also offer an annual financial health diagnostic report to proactively identify loopholes and suggest cost-saving and efficiency-improving measures.
Q: When does a new company need to start bookkeeping and tax filing?
A: A taxpayer engaged in production or business operations shall register with the competent tax authority within 30 days after receiving the business licence. Even if there is no business income, “zero filings” must be submitted on time. Prolonged non-filing will result in tax abnormalities and affect normal operations.
Q: What is the difference between a small-scale VAT taxpayer and a general VAT taxpayer?
A: The main difference lies in the calculation method. General taxpayers may deduct input VAT, while small-scale taxpayers use a simplified calculation method. Small-scale taxpayers are those with annual VAT-taxable sales not exceeding RMB 5 million. Eligible small-scale taxpayers may enjoy a reduced rate of 1% (instead of the standard 3%).
Q: What tax benefits can a small-cap enterprise enjoy?
A: A qualifying small-cap enterprise (engaged in a non-restricted or non-prohibited industry and meeting three conditions: annual taxable income ≤ RMB 3 million, number of employees ≤ 300, total assets ≤ RMB 50 million) is subject to 25% of its taxable income being included in the tax base and then a 20% corporate income tax rate – an effective tax rate of 5%. In addition, small-scale VAT taxpayers with monthly sales not exceeding RMB 100,000 (quarterly sales not exceeding RMB 300,000) are exempt from VAT.
Q: Can I outsource bookkeeping without providing source documents?
A: No. Agency bookkeeping must be based on source documents. Failure to provide documents will result in inaccurate accounting and incorrect filings, potentially leading to tax penalties. Please organise and transmit your documents every month.
Q: How are accounting files transferred when changing agencies?
A: We will compile all accounting vouchers, ledgers, financial statements, tax returns, and electronic accounting records, sign a handover checklist with the new agency, and ensure the integrity and traceability of historical financial data.
